    8 x² + 14 x + 5 = 0

    2 (4 x² + 7 x) = - 5

    2 (4 x² + 7 x + 49/16 - 49/16) = - 5

    2 (4 x² + 7 x + 49/16) - 98/16 = - 5

    2 (2 x + 7/4) ² = - 5 + 98/16

    2 (2 x + 7/4) ² = - 80/16 + 98/16

    2 (2 x + 7/4) ² = 18/16 = 9/8 / : 2

    (2 x + 7/4) ² = 9/16 / √

    2 x + 7/4 = 3/4

    2 x = 3/4 - 7/4 = - 1

    x = - 1

    and 2 x + 7/4 = - 3/4

    2 x = - 7/4 - 3/4 = - 10/4 = - 5/2

    x = - 5 / 4
