    Expand

    5x+5=3x+12

    Subtract 5 from both sides

    5x=3x+12-5

    Simplify 3x+12-5 to 3x+7

    5x=3x+7

    Subtract 3x from both sides

    5x-3x=7

    Simplify 5x-3x to 2x

    2x=7

    Divide both sides by 2

    x = 7/2
