In percentage, 100% is the basis. 12% is 12/100 or simplified to 6/50

100% - 12% = 88% of the students in class are right handed.

Assuming the number of students in class is 100. Then, 12% of the class is 12 and 88% of the class is 88.

Comparing 12% and 88% it is clear that there are more right-handed students in class than there are left-handed students.
