You have to do 48 / 4 which is 12. 12+12=24 24+24=48 The working out just shown is the same as 12+12+12+12 or 12x4. 12x4=48.

lets take the number is x
now according to condition, 4 times x is 48
i. e
4*x = 48
divide 4 on both sides
4x / 4 = 48/4
x = 12
so 12 is the number which when multiplied by 4 gives 48 ...
