    P=2 (L+W)

    P=280

    W=20 (yards I assume)

    280=2 (L+20)

    divideboth sides by 2

    140=L+20

    minus 20

    120=L

    length=120 yards

    equation is

    P=2 (L+W)

    or

    280=2 (x+20)
