2x2-4x-6=2 * (x2-2x-3)
x2-3x+1x-3
1 * (x-3)

2x^2-4x-6=0
2 (x^2-2x-3) = 0
2 (x-3) (x+1) = 0
2=0 x-3=0 x+1=0
2 does not = 0 so this is extraneous
x=3
x=-1
