LCD stands for lowest common denominator. Denominator is the bottom number in a fraction. So the 2 denominators given are 8 and 4, and so the lowest common denominator is 8, because that is the lowest number that both 8 and 4 can be evenly divided into.
So if you transformed the 2 fractions to make use of the LCD, they would be 7/8 and 6/8.
