Difference between integers and real numbers

A real number is any number, like whatever number you can think of, while an integer is a positive or negative whole number (no decimals/fractions).

A real number represents a digit that can be measured or visualised. For instance, e is a real number because we can measure and scale such a number. However, integers refer to negative and positive whole numbers only, such as the counting numbers.

Example:

π, or pi, is a real number. It can be measured, scaled, and visualised on a number line or plane. However, it is not an integer because it is not a whole number.
