If an alloy requires copper, nickel, and zinc in a ratio of 12:5:3, how many kilograms of each metal are needed to make 5 kg of the alloy?

    If you need a ratio of 12:5:3 the total must be made up of a multiple of (12+5+3) = 20 and each part is 20.

    5/20=1/4 kg

    So the alloy will be made up of:

    12 (1/4) = 3kg of copper, 5 (1/4) = 1.25kg of nickel, and 3 (1/4) = 0.75kg of zinc.
