    (7 1/2) / (3/4) =

    (15/2) / (3/4) =

    15/2 * 4/3 =

    60/6 =

    (7 1/2 ft) (p / (3ft/4))

    (15ft/2) (4p/3ft)

    10p

The meaning of the quotient is derived from the cancellation of the foot units so that you are left with the number of 3/4 foot pieces, p, that can be taken from a 7 1/2 foot length of wire.
