It is - 40°F on a cold night in the North Pole. When the sun is out the next day, it is - 5°F. What is the difference in temperatures?

    The difference is 35 degrees F.

    Since - 40 and - 5 are both negative, you can pretty much ignore the negatives. do 40-5, and you get 35. that's your answer.
