    Plug in 3 for "y":

    7x + 2y = 48

    7x + 2 (3) = 48

    2*3 = 6

    7x + 6 = 48

    Then, you have to subtract 6 to both sides ...

    7x = 42

    Divide 7 to both sides and the your answer would be 6
