When asked to factor the trinomial 8x^2 - 8x-16, a student gives the answer (x-2) (x+1). what is wrong with this answer?

    There's nothing wrong with the answer, they just divided the whole trinomial by 8 so that you end up with x²-x-2, which would then be factored into (x+1) (x-2). If you didn't wan to divide by 8, your answer would be (2x-4) (4x+4).
