    Since a circle is 2pi, we can add or subtract by 2pi to get the same answer - 5pi/3-2pi=pi/3, and cos (pi/3) = 1/2 (by memorization). Since cos (x) is a function (for every x value, there is 1 y value) with no breaks in it etc., your answer is 1/2
