    1/2 of 18 = 9 pints used for flares

    1/3 of 18 = 6 pints used for sparks

    9 + 6 = 15 pints used

    18 - 15 = 3 pints left

    17 3/4 - 3 = 14 3/4 pints need to get for the next design.
