    Width = 8ft

    lenght=x

    Perimeter of a rectangle=2 length + 2 width

    Therefore:

    2x+2 (8 ft) = 40 ft

    2x+16 ft=40 ft

    2x=40 ft-16ft

    2x=24 ft

    x=24 ft/2

    x=12 ft

    Answer: the lenght of the room will be 12 ft.

    Perimiter=2 (legnth+width)

    perimiter=40

    width=8

    40=2 (legnth+8)

    divide both sides by 2

    20=legnth+8

    minus 8 both sides

    12=legnth

    legnth=12 feet
