    Y = 3x + 4 ... slope here is 3. A parallel line will have the same slope.

    slope = (d - 4) / (5 - (-2) = (d - 4) / (5 + 2) = (d - 4) / 7 ... so d is going to have to be 25.

    lets check ... the slope has to equal 3 to be a parallel line

    (-2,4) (5,25)

    slope = (25 - 4) / (5 - (-2) = 21 / (5 + 2) = 21/7 = 3 (correct)

    so d = 25
