    The "roots" of a function are the values of x for which y is zero. To solve this, be must use the quadratic formula, where a = - 10, b=12, and c=-9

    Quadratic formula:

    x = [-b + / - √ (b²-4ac) ] : 2a

    Plugging in a, b, and c:

    x = (-12 + / - √144 - 4 (-10) (-9)) : - 20

    x = (-12 + / - √ (144 + 360)) : - 20

    x = (-12 + / - 6√14) : - 20

    x = (-12 + 6√14) / - 20 or (-12 - 6√14) / - 20

    x = 3/5 + / - 3√ (14) / 10
