1940: 62.9

1980: 73.7

From 1940 to 1980, that was 40 years. It rose 10.8 years for life expectancy in those 40 years, therefore 0.27 life expectancy years per year. (10.8 divided by 40)

From 1980 to 2000, that is 20 years, so 20 multiplied by 0.27 = 5.4 (from 1980 to 2000 the life expectancy rose 5.4 years)

73.7 for 1980, plus 5.4 equals 79.1
