    So x^2+8x-48

    it can be written in the form

    ax^2+bx+c

    so since the 'a' term=1 we want it in form

    (x + / - something1) (x + / - something2)

    so basically, something1 times something 2=c and something 1+something 2=b

    c=-48

    b=8

    factor - 48 and fiind what 2 factors add to 8 (obviously one has to be positive and is 8 more than the negative [negative is smaller])

    -48=

    -1 times 48 no

    -2 times 24 no

    -3 times 16 no

    -4 times 12 yes

    -4+12=8

    therefor it is

    (x-4) (x+12) or (x+12) (x-4)

    so the answer would be the one with either (x+12) or (x-4) (since you didn't include answer choices)

    (x+12) or (x-4) would be the right choice

    This trinomial factored is:

    (x + 12) (x - 4)

    either of these would be considered a factor.
