A package of pencils contains 12 pencils. Billy bought p packages of pencils but gave 10 pencils to his friend. Write an expression that represents the number of pencils Billy has left.

    12 times p is how many pencils he bought. its - 10, because he's losing 10, since he gave some to his friend. You would need a variable for how many pencils he has left.
