Let us assume the common ratio to be = x
The ratio given in the question is 3:8
The total number that has to be divided = 132 pound.
Then
3x + 8x = 132
11x = 132
x = 132/11
= 12
So
132 pound divided in the ration 3:8 = 3 * 12:8 * 12
= 36:96
So the amount of 132 pounds when divided in the ration of 3:8 will be 36 pound:96 pound. I hope the procedure is clear to you.
