Find the surface area of a cylinder with a base diameter of 8 yd and a height of 7 yd. write your answer in terms of π, and be sure to include the correct unit.

    The surface area (SA) of the cylinder is the sum of its lateral area (LA) and twice the area of its base (BA)

    SA = LA + 2BA

    The lateral area is the circumference of the base times the height LA = πdh. The area of the base is the area of the circle, BA = πd²/4

    Substituting the given values to the equation,

    SA = π (8 yd) (7 yd) + 2 x (π) (8 yd) ²/4

    Thus, the surface area of the cylinder is 88π yd².
