How do i know where to place the first digit of a quotient in a division problem

    If the first digit of the dividend is less than the divisor, you would put the first digit in the column right after the first one of the dividend. Example: 8 divided by 456. 8 dosent go into 4 but it does go into 45 so you would put the first digit in the quotient above the 5.
