At one farmer's market, bananas cost $0.80 per pound. At another farmer's market, bananas are sold in 5-pound bags for $4.50 per bag. Which explains how to find the better buy?

    At 1 farmers market it is 80 cents per lb. < = = better buy

    at the other one it is 4.50 per 5 lbs ... to find out how much it is per lb, simply divide the cost by the lbs.

    4.50/5 = 0.9 ... so here, it costs 90 cents per lb ... so this IS NOT the better buy.

    The better buy/deal will be the market that has the lower price per pound. We know that the first farmer's market sells bananas for $0.80 per pound. We can find the price per pound for the second market by dividing the $4.50 per bag by 5 pounds. 4.50/5 = 0.90. So, the second market sells bananas for $0.90 per pound.

    With this being said, the bananas at the first farmer's market are the better buy because they cost less per pound.
