What can the converse of the Pythagorean Theorem tell us about our surroundings? Choose a corner in any room. Choose a spot on each wall that makes the corner. The spots chosen need to be at the same height. Measure the distance from each spot to the corner. Then measure the distance between the spots. Describe the corner, spots and tools you used to obtain the measurements. Do the measurements satisfy a2 + b2 = c2? What does that tell you about the corner of the room?

    It will tell you if the wall meet at a perfect right angle.

    In a right triangle, the sum of the squares of the legs is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. This can be used to test any triangle.
