How to change a mix number into a improper fraction

By a mixed number, i think you mean a mixed fraction, something like this?

1 3/4 (one and 3 quarters)

so one and 3/4 means that there is one "whole" (1) 3/4

and three quarters 1 (3/4)

so if one whole means 4 quarters

4 quarters plus 3 quarters = 7 quarters or 7/4

Example, 4 2/3

Steps:

1. Multiply the denominator and outside number

4 times 3 equals 12

2. Now add the numerator to that

12 + 2=14

3. Your answer is 14/3

(Btw, when doing improper fractions, the denominator always stays the same. The numerator is the only one that changes.)
