If there is an x on both sides add or subtract it. Here's an example: 2x+10=x+8

So subtract the x and get x=-2

Or if it's negative: 5x-6=9x-11

Subtract nine x and add the 6 on the other side

-4x=-5

So divide by - 4 and get x=5/4
