Why are radicals simplified before adding and subtracting? Explain your reasoning by adding sqrt8 and sqrt32.

    Radicals are simplified so that the bases of the terms are the same. The √8 simplifies to 2√2 and √32 simplifies to 4√2. When these two terms are added, the answer will be 6√2.
