A gardener is attempting to put a fence around a rectangular garden. The total length of the fence is 30 feet. The width of the garden is 3 ft longer than the length. What are the length and width of the garden?

    3x + 3x + x + x = 30

    8x = 30

    x = 3.75 ft (width)

    3x = 3 x 3.75 = 11.25 ft (length)

    length 11.25 ft, width 3.75 ft
