The ratio of the width to the length of a painting is 3 to 7. If the painting is 43 inches long, how wide is it?

    Width / length = width / length

    3/7 = w / 43

    3/7 = w/43

    cross multiply

    (7) (w) = (3) (43)

    7w = 129

    w = 129/7 or 18 3/7 <==
