    X^2 - 2x - 4 = - 3x + 9 First bring everything to the left side

    add 3x to both sides

    x^2 + x - 4 = 9 subtract 9 from both sides

    x^2 + x - 13 = 0

    This does not factor so you have to complete the square or do quadratic formula.

    Quad Formula:

    x = (-b + - sqrt (b^2 - 4ac) / (2a))

    x = (-1 + - sqrt (1 - 4*1*-13) / 2)

    x = (-1 + - sqrt (1 + 52) / 2)

    x = (-1 + - sqrt (53) / 2)

    x = (-1 + sqrt (53) / 2)

    x = (-1 - sqrt (53) / 2)
