    If x = - 1 this gives - 1 + 3 - 3 + 1 = 0

    so x = - 1 is one root

if we divide the expression by (x + 1) we get the quotient x^2+2x+1

    which factors to (x+1) (x+1)

    so the multiplicity is 3
