40:1+3 - (3*7) + 7-5 how is this 24?

    Order of operations tell us to divide the 40 by 1 first, giving us 40+3 - (3 * 7) + 7-5.

    Now do inside the (), giving us 40+3-21+7-5. Now do it and you should be fine.
