The magnitude of the object's velocity is

    √ (5.1² + 2.82²) = √ (33.9624) = 5.828 m/s.

    Kinetic energy = (1/2) (M) (speed²)

    = (1/2) (5.22 kg) (5.828 m/s) ²

    = (2.61 kg) (33.9624 m²/s²)

    = 88.64 kg-m²/s²

    = 88.64 Joules
