A flat-screen TV weighs 147 newtons. The mass of the TV is kilograms.

    Wherever the TV happens to be, its weight is

    (mass) · (acceleration of gravity in that place).

    There are small differences, but the acceleration of gravity anywhere on Earth is always close to 9.8 m/s². So if the TV is anywhere on Earth, we can write

    147 N = (mass) · (9.8 m/s²)

    Divide each side

    by 9.8 m/s² : Mass = (147 N) / (9.8 m/s²)

    = (147/9.8) kg

    = 15 kg.
