You are given this hypothesis: ñif beans are grown in soil with compost, then they will grow at the same rate as beans grown in soil without compost because compost has no effect on the growth rate of beans.î You have access to these supplies and equipment: fifty bean seeds, fifty small pots, potting soil, compost, and grow lights. Write a brief scientific design to test this hypothesis. Include the aspects of good scientific design described in this lesson.

    The beans should be separated into two groups of 25 beans each and potted in the same depth of soil in different pots. Each should be provided with the exact same amount of soil, hours in sunlight, lights and water. 25 of the pots should have compost added to them while the remaining 25 are left without compost. The rate of growth of each plant is then measured per day.
