What velocity must a 1340 kg car have in order to reach the momentum of a 2680 kg truck traveling at a velocity of 15 m/s to the west?

    Momentum is the product of the mass of a given body and its velocity,

    therefore mathematically; momentum = mass (kg) * velocity (m/s).

    A body at rest will have zero momentum since the velocity of such a body is considered to be zero.

    The SI units of momentum is kg*m/s

    Momentum of the truck = 2680 kg * 15 m/s

    = 40200 kg*m/s

    Momentum of the car = 1340 kg * v (unknown velocity)

    = 1340 v kg*m/s

    When the car attains the momentum of the truck the its speed will be;

    1340 v = 40200

    v = 30 m/s

    Therefore, for the car to attain the momentum of the truck it will need to travel with a speed of 30 m/s.
