I have reduced my distance to 1/5 of what it was. So the intensity becomes 25 times what it was.

From my perspective, the intensity of the sound has increase.

As you approach an object, the soundwaves have less distance over which to disperse, which means you pick them up with greater clarity and loudness. You are certainly familiar with this idea. As you approach your tv, for example, the sound seems to get louder.
