Metals are considered excellent heat conductors for two reasons: One, the metal ions in the lattice are closely packed together, and like the idea of body heat, when something is compact and together, heat will stay. Two, the delocalized electrons can bring kinetic energy (kinetic energy produces heat by rubbing two component of something together) through the lattice.
