How are sound waves and electromagnetic waves different?

    EM waves propagate through a vacuum: sound waves require a medium. EM waves are transverse vibrations: sound waves are longitudinal vibrations. EM waves are fluctuating electric and magnetic fields: sound is fluctuating pressure.
