    Velocity is the rate of the displacement of an object with time

    velocity = displacement / time

    Since there is no negative timing in all cases, so in every case where the displacement is negative, then displacement will velocity will also be negative

    For example, If the displacement of an object is - 30m and the time 6 seconds

    Then velocity = displacement / time

    = - 30/6

    = - 5 m/s

    An object which moves in the negative direction has a negative velocity. If the object is speeding up then its acceleration vector is directed in the same direction as its motion (in this case, a negative acceleration).
