As a result of certain types of plate movement, you get different changes to the earth's surface.

Divergent plates (ones that move away from each other) you get mid ocean ridges as a result of sea floor spreading.

Convergent plate (ones that move towards one another) you get volcanoes and mountains.

Transformation plates (one that slide past one another) you get earthquakes and faults.
