A given mass of air has a volume of 6.00 L at 101 kPa. At constant temperature, the pressure is decreased to 25.0 kPa. Calculate the final volume for the gas.

    According to Boyle's law which states that "the volume of a given mass of gas at constant temperature is inversely proportional to its pressure". Mathematically, P = k/V where;

    P is the pressure

    V is the volume

    k is the proportionality constant

    PV = k

    P1V1 = P2V2

    P1 and P2 are initial and final pressure respectively

    V1 and V2 are the initial and final volume respectively

    Given P1 = 101kPa V1 = 6.0L, P2 = 25kPa V2 = ?

    From the formula;

    V2 = P1V1/P2

    V2 = 101*6/25

    V2 = 24.24L

    The final volume for the gas is 24.24L
