A meteor that originally was heading south breaks up into two chunks. One of the chunks moves southwest. The second chunk was not immediately found, but scientists guessed that they should look for an object heading

    when an object moving in a defined direction splits into two equal parts they tend to posses similar kinetic energy therefore the movement of one part will be directly opposite to the movement of the other.

    A meteor moving south and later breaking up into two chunks will having its broken chunks moving in the southwest and southeast directions since they are directly opposite directions. hence the scientists should be looking for the second chunk of object heading southeast
