A pocket watch contains a long, spiral piece of metal which is coiled tightly as the watch is wound. What form of potential energy is involved in winding a pocket watch?

    Explanation:

    If we tightly coiled the watch metal wire, then it stores the Elastic Potential energy. The metal spiral wire is in the form of spring and when we compress it stores Elastic potential Energy because work is done to distort the shape of spring.

    The metal wire has some spring constant which opposes the applied force while coiling it and thus wire also applies a minimal reaction force in the response of action force.
