    This is known as principle of floatation. The buoyant force (F) is the force acting upward (+F) on a floating body while the weight of the body is acting downward in the negative y direction i. e - W.

    Taking the sum of the forces on the body in the vertical direction, mathematically,

    +F + (-W) = 0

    +F-W = 0

    This finally gives F = W which shoes that the buoyant force acting on the object is equal to its weight.
