A speedboat increases its velocity from 25 m/s to

the west to 35 m/s to the west in a distance of 250 m.

a. Find the magnitude of the boat's acceleration.

    Explanation:

    Given data

    Initial velocity = v₁ = 25 m/s

    Final velocity = v₂ = 35 m/s

    distance = s = 250 m

    Acceleration = a = ?

    Using 3rd equation of motion

    2 a s = v₂² - v₁²

    2 * a * (250) = 35² - 25²

    500 * a = 600

    a = 600/500

    a = 1.2 ms⁻²

    Thus the acceleration of the boat is 1.2 m/s² until it travel up to 250 m from initial velocity 25m/s to final velocity 35 m/s.
