What is the partial pressure of water vapor in an air sample when the total pressure is 1.00 atm, the partial pressure of nitrogen is 0.79 atm, the partial pressure of oxygen is 0.20 atm, and the partial pressure of all other gases is 0.0044 atm?

    Partial pressure of water vapor = 0.0056 atm

    Explanation:

    Given that

    Total pressure = 1 atm

    Partial pressure of nitrogen = 0.79 atm

    Partial pressure of oxygen = 0.2 atm

    Partial pressure of other gases = 0.0044 atm

    We know that

    Total pressure = Sum of partial pressure of all gases.

    Total pressure = Partial pressure of nitrogen + Partial pressure of oxygen + Partial pressure of other gases + Partial pressure of water vapor

    So now by putting the values

    1 = 0.79 + 0.2 + 0.0044 + Partial pressure of water vapor

    Partial pressure of water vapor = 0.0056 atm
