Volcanoes are the contrasting geological landforms that are formed in the divergent and the convergent plate boundaries. It plays a great role in the energy flow and cycling of matter on earth.

During the time of volcanic eruption, it ejects the pyroclastic materials, and some lava, and also along with it, it releases some gases into the atmosphere. The energy that is released from the eruption is transferred into the atmosphere in the form of gas, air and other substances.

As the pyroclastic materials are ejected, it immediately cools and deposits at some places, forming solid rocks. This continuous process leads to the formation of new rock layers in the nearby region. This is how the matter is transferred from the subsurface to the surface and to the atmosphere.
